Ironically, Ibtihaj Muhammad, the Muslim American Olympic Winner also belongs to the same neighborhood Queens and last month she also stated that she doesn't feel safe. Hate crimes against Muslims are steadily increasing in the United States but are not considered hate crimes usually.
Abdul Malik Mujahid, founder of Sound Vision stresses the need to organize and empower ourselves in a comment on his Facebook post, "This is the third murder of Muslim American in New York....Muslim organizations must get their act together. No Muslim organization keeps a count of how many Muslims are murdered in a year on the streets of America. In two months last year I counted 12 based on media reports. Hate crimes are not considered a hate crime unless you have some mussels as a community..... 3 killed in North Carolina last year are not considered a hate crime. ....90% of our time and money is going into building masjids and disaster relief. We must devote 60% of our time and money to organize and empower ourselves."

JAMAICA HILLS, Queens — The aunt of an NYPD transit officer was stabbed to death while on a nighttime walk with her husband in Queens, police said Thursday.
Nazma Khanam, 60, was walking about 9 p.m. Wednesday in front of 160-12 Normal Road in Jamaica Hills when she was stabbed after what sources say may have been an attempted robbery.
She was reportedly walking ahead of her husband when she was attacked. He was not able to save her in time.
"Her husband was behind her one and a half blocks away and he didn't see nothing," said Mohammed Rahman, a nephew of the victim. "She's just crying or something, 'Somebody kill me, somebody kill me,' and he's coming to help. He didn't realize somebody stabbed his wife."
